What it’s really like to have Invisalign as an adult! (the whole experience)

Can adults use Invisalign?

Yes, they can! It’s never too late to invest in your confidence by fixing your teeth. In fact, Invisalign for adults is tailored specifically for adult teeth so patients are assured of maximum realignment. Many adults opt for aligners over traditional metal braces as they are less noticeable to wear and impact less on our day-to-day lives – perfect for the modern businessman or woman.

The only thing to really consider is that your teeth need to be as healthy as possible before you can begin the orthodontic treatment. This includes correcting any tooth decay, signs of periodontal disease, or missing teeth.

The difference between teens and adults using Invisalign

As mentioned before, Invisalign has different ranges of teeth alignment products tailored to adults and teens specifically. The Invisalign for Adults range does not have a blue usage indicator, whereas the teen range does. This is likely because adults are trusted more to adhere to their teeth realignment plan compared to some teens who might feel compelled to not wear Invalisgn as much as they should.

How long does it take to get straight teeth with Invisalign?

Overall, the treatment time for Invisalign will depend on your personal needs and the intensity of teeth realignment. This will be discussed between yourself and your dentist at your consultation appointment. On average, however, you can expect the treatment to take somewhere between 12-18 months to reach completion. However, you could start seeing results with your teeth in a matter of weeks!

Following the completion of your treatment, you’ll be wearing retainers to ensure your teeth stay in their new place.

The first week versus the last week

Your first week of Invisalign treatment will likely bring you some discomfort. This is completely normal and to be expected, and is simply because your gums and teeth are adjusting to having pressure put on them. Your dentist will take you through some tips to help the pain subside, but it will naturally go away after a week or so, when your mouth normalises this new piece of kit in your mouth!

By the time the last week of treatment rolls around, you should be far more used to wearing Invisalign. In fact, you’ll hardly even notice they’re there; even so, it’s important you stick to wearing your Invisalign sets as much as you’re supposed to, even as we round the final corner.
