When is root canal treatment needed?
If the pulp inside the tooth has been damaged, infected or irritated, a root canal treatment may be necessary. Often, decay on the crown or ‘top’ of the tooth enables bacteria to enter the tooth which then causes damage to the pulp. However, dental or facial trauma, a chipped tooth or existing large fillings can also cause the pulp to become irritated.
