What gastroenterology tests are available?

Your gastroenterologist specialist will determine which tests are appropriate, depending on the type of symptoms you are experiencing and whether your family has a history of certain conditions. In some cases, an examination may be all that is needed in order to confirm a diagnosis but other tests are often used to confirm a diagnosis. Urine and stool samples may be tested for the presence of blood and other anomalies, for example, whilst X-rays, CT scans and internal scans can provide diagnostic images which can help to confirm which condition you’re suffering from, if any. Your gastroenterologist may also recommend a breath test.
